This presentation is geared towards anyone from North Carolina with professional access to NamUs, including those entering or editing cases in NamUs, and/or investigating missing and unidentified persons cases. This presentation will review the history and development of the NamUs program; the role of NamUs in missing and unidentified persons cases and how it interacts with federal and other forensic intelligence databases; introduce attendees to NamUs technology, forensic services, and investigative support; demonstrate how antemortem and postmortem records, biometrics, and how positive scientific identification is established; how law enforcement and medical examiners/coroners work together on missing and unidentified cases to resolution, and how to engage cross jurisdictionally with other agencies; and review who, how, and when to consult with NamUs on missing and unidentified persons cases.
