NamUs is a national repository for long term missing, unidentified, and unclaimed persons cases. It is a really powerful tool that allows for cross matching and searching between both the missing persons and the unidentified persons records. NamUs is more than a database. The NamUs program includes a cadre of experts with decades long experience in law enforcement, medicolegal death investigation, as well as allied forensic services that provide investigative and technical support to agencies working these cases. 
 

NamUs and Tribal Communities

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) is a national centralized repository and resource center for missing, unidentified, and unclaimed person cases across the United States. NamUs recognizes the need for additional support for tribal communities and has dedicated resources to address missing and unidentified Indigenous persons cases.

The staggering number of missing and unidentified person cases in the United States has been deemed our nation's "Silent Mass Disaster." The sheer volume of these cases poses a significant challenge to law enforcement, medical examiners, coroners and family members searching to locate missing loved ones.
